WEI FARM PROGRAMS:Third Quarter Report
NORTH CIRCLE PROJECT WEI welcomes María Regan-González as our new AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer coordinating WEI's North Circle Project. Many thanks must be given to Katie Zerwas, retiring AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, who successfully created a viable infrastructure for the project. Currently, we are working on a logo for the North Circle Project, recruiting farmers and growers into the program, writing grants and seeking investors. A Conditional Use Permit and Business Plan for the processing house are being developed as well as a future fall and winter lecture series inviting local farmers, activists, investors and community leaders to engage in a county-wide effort to support the North Circle Project as well as rural revitalization efforts. The North Circle Project is also piloting a few sample organically certified products this fall through WEI's CSA members and other interested consumers. For more information on the North Circle Project, contact María at northcircle<AT>w-e-i.org
2008 COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA) FARM: The 2008 farm season is wrapping up a few more weeks of CSA deliveries and our continued presence at the Good Soil Farmer's Market in North Branch and Mill City Market in MInneapolis. The farm will be supplying produce for the Mother Earth Banquet on Oct. 1. Planning for next year's farm season are underway as we finalize the winterization of the farm fields and the orchard. Voluteers are welcome every day of the week, especially on Saturdays. If you would like to join in the farm work and apple harvest, call 651-583-0705 and leave a message.
ORGANIC FARM SCHOOL The 2008 Organic Farm School was a great success this year. We will keep you posted on the fall and winter lecture series and plans for next year's Organic Farm School.
