A Loft Literary Center class at the WEI campus, led by Laurie Allmann
Do you love looking at maps of remote corners of the world? Are you intrigued by the findings of scientists as they illuminate an obscure species of fish or the patterns of prairie fires? If you are fascinated by the natural world—and you’d like to travel this rich terrain in your writing—this class is designed for you. We’ll share and discuss examples of environmental themes in contemporary poetry, theater, creative nonfiction, fiction, children’s books, even cartoons. You’ll receive tips for researching, fact checking, and creatively translating the language of science in your writing without compromising accuracy. This will be a day of readings, discussion, and writing exercises inspired by the beautiful natural setting of Amador Hill. Opportunity will be provided for participants who wish to discuss works in progress. Comfortable clothing and low-heeled shoes recommended, since we’ll spend some time outdoors. Writers of all genres welcome. Bring a bag lunch.
This writing workshop is offered through The Loft Literary Center. Register for “Telling Wild Tales,” Class A125 at www.loft.org or call The Loft at 612-215-2575.
